Vision and Mission of The United Methodist Church
Mission:
The Mission of the West Ohio Conference is to equip local churches to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world… A world of justice, love, and peace filled with people growing in the likeness of Jesus Christ.
Vision:
The United Methodist Church forms disciples of Jesus Christ who, empowered by the Holy Spirit, love boldly, serve joyfully, and lead courageously in local communities and worldwide connections.
What the Mission Means
The mission of The United Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
We believe disciples of Jesus Christ are people who are committed to:
- Personal transformation through prayer, study, worship, and holy living.
- Community transformation through acts of mercy, justice, and reconciliation.
- World transformation through global mission, connectional ministry, and witness.
This mission is the foundation of everything we do. It drives our churches, shapes our ministries, and fuels our witness to the love of God made known in Jesus Christ.
Our United Methodist Vision
What the Vision Means
This vision is more than a tagline. It captures the heart of who United Methodists are and where God is calling us to go.
- Love Boldly
We strive to love God passionately and to follow Jesus’ example by embracing and including people of every age, race, nation, gender, and walk of life. - Serve Joyfully
With Christ’s heart, we walk alongside the most vulnerable, extending care, compassion, and service — not out of obligation, but with gladness. - Lead Courageously
Rooted in faith, we commit to resist and dismantle systems of injustice, oppression, and evil, working for reconciliation, peace, and a more just world.
The path to our Vision
Our vision reflects both who we already are and God’s dream for us. Beginning in 2021, the Council of Bishops and the Connectional Table journeyed together in prayerful collaboration, seeking God’s wisdom and discerning a hope-filled vision for an unfolding era in The United Methodist Church. “Sankofa” – a West African concept of remembering where we’ve come from in order to move forward – guided the work.
