“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor” (Luke 4:18-19).
In isolated areas of the Congo, the inaccessibility of medical care has long complicated treatment for those who are ill. Diseases such as yellow fever, cholera, and malaria run rampant, and children regularly die from malnutrition. In the name of Christ, clinics and hospitals created and operated by The United Methodist Church offer rooms for treatment, hospitalization, prenatal, delivery, and postpartum care.
